No one wants to be in an accident. Imagining it alone may trigger an unsettling depiction of losing our loved ones and even our lives. But accidents do happen. All we can do to minimize the lethality of that misfortune is to think of the worst scenarios and to be prepared to act.

We All Have the Chance

The first thing to acknowledge is that you and other car passengers do have a split second to react against an upcoming impact. You may not be 100% free of injuries. But acting the right way during a collision may save you from impairing damages.

If you are on the driver’s seat, you have to straighten your wrist and grip the steering wheel firmly. Do not bend your wrist as it may increase the risk of dislocation. Then, embrace yourself for the collision by flattening your back on the seat. The goal is to distribute the impact force evenly on the seat’s cushion. Do not forget to tighten your muscles, and keep your head facing forward.

If you sit on the passenger’s seat, do not undermine the use of the seat belts. Wear it correctly, and also lean your body firmly against the seat. Ducking during a collision is dangerous. It will stretch the seat belt and make your body absorb most of the impact force.

Car Emergency Tools

And in that scenario, car emergency tools will be a matter of life and death. Always place a belt cutter and window breaker (some manufacturers have those two utilities in one product) in both front and rear seats.

Also, keep your phone close to yourself. In case you are injured in a car accident, unable to move, and are in a remote place, you can call for help from the phone. You do not want to be alone during an accident. Getting other people to help you will significantly increase your chances of survival.

The Aftermath

In many countries, having an auto insurance policy is a must. Whether we are the victim or the offender of an accident, the insurance will still lessen the trouble in one way or another. It can help with the mediation, compensation money, and even legal proceeding.
