Travelling to Oban

Oban is situated on the West Coast of Scotland, roughly half way between Glasgow and the Isle of Skye. It is often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Isles' and is a busy port and ferry terminal.

If you're travelling by car from the south, then it will take you around 2½ hours to drive to Oban from either Edinburgh or Glasgow. Between July and September it can take longer due to the amounts of traffic on the roads.

Parking in Oban is becoming more difficult. It is normally possible to bring a vehicle onto the Railway Pier whilst you load or unload luggage, but it must then be removed immediately. While we are at sea, there are a few alternatives for you to consider ranging from open-air parking to secure indoor parking. You should be aware that these facilities are charged for. We can give you further advice once you have booked your holiday or can book secure parking for you.

If you're travelling to Oban by coach or train, then both of these services terminate at the Railway Pier, where you will normally join the ship.

Many guests now make use of cheap internal flights to Glasgow, then transferring to coach or train and making the most of the scenic journey north. If you're travelling within the UK from the south of England, then this can be far quicker and cheaper than driving.

There is much to see and do in and around Oban and you may wish to extend your holiday in the area either before or after your cruise. Accommodaton is reasonably priced and there are plenty of good pubs and restaurants offering a wide range of food that should suit practically any taste. If you have a caravan or motorhome, there are also several excellent caravan sites within minutes drive of the town centre, some with direct access onto a beach and with fantastic views.
