A fantastic opportunity to sail with Bruce Pearson, one of the top wildlife artists in the UK

Bruce first sailed with Chalice in 2004, although he is no stranger to the Hebrides. During this week long cruise Bruce will be painting and drawing wildlife while we sail and his role is more of ‘artist in residence’ than tutor or guide. The week is planned as a relaxing holiday, where you can enjoy one of your favourite pastimes on board a warm and comfortable boat with good company, great food and in beautiful surroundings. Bruce will be passing on tips and encouragement to help you to get the most out of your painting and sketching.

Where we go will depend entirely upon the weather, but rest assured that there will be no ‘heroic’ sailing! After departing from Oban around 4.00pm on the first day, we’ll be visiting quiet locations between Canna and Coll, spending each night at anchor in a quiet bay. Places we may visit would include the Treshnish Isles and the famous Fingals Cave on the island of Staffa, or the spectacular Loch Coruisk which nestles under the Cuillins of Skye. As an artist for almost 30 years, Bruce has travelled widely in search of subjects from the Arctic and Antarctica, to Africa, much of Europe and the Americas. In the summer of 2005 Bruce won one of the most valuable annual art prizes in the UK for a work he painted on his last trip to St Kilda with Chalice. The only qualifications that you need to join us on this cruise are a love of the outdoors or an interest in painting or drawing. Non-participating partners will therefor be most welcome. The pictures below were all completed by guests on Bruce's cruise in 2005 - non of whom are artists or paint on a regular basis. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you you can relax, stop trying too hard and enjoy the encouragement of an amazingly skilled professional....
